Come join entrepreneur and highly regarded marketing and public relations executive Darlene Tenes for a virtual workshop on making tamales! During this hands-on workshop for the whole family, you will learn how to prepare masa and fillings and learn to wrap, fold, and steam tamales to perfection.
Ms. Tenes will also tell her story and answer questions from Girl Scouts about what it means to be a female and Latina leader in the community as well as successful business owner. See below for more on Ms. Tenes and details on the event.
Event details: Those who are registered for this event will receive a recipe book with a list of ingredients and supplies needed on 11/15. Attendees will come to event with meat (or veggie) fillings already prepped and the live session will lead participants through the wrapping and steaming process. You will need something to steam the tamales in such as a big stock pot with a steamer basket in the bottom, a rice cooker, a bamboo steamer, vegetable steamer basket, or another DIY steamer. Please note that tamales can’t be cooked in the oven, microwave, or toaster.
There is no minimum age to help with tamales—Ms. Tenes said she started helping out at age 3! However, this is an event for the whole family and at least one adult must be present for Daisy, Brownie, and Junior participants.
